Video analysis with Dawn Patrol and Surfline

Dawn Patrol understands that analysing the data from your surf can help you improve your surfing. However we took it one step further and partnered with Surfline Sessions™. Surfline Sessions™ creates a video of every wave you ride in front of a Surfline camera then sends it to your iPhone. Just connect your Dawn Patrol account to your Surfline App, check the cam locations and then go surf right in front of the camera. Get ready to view your rides instantly after your surf.

You will need to connect your Dawn Patrol and Surfline accounts in order to receive your video clips.

What you need

  • Both the Surfline and Dawn Patrol apps downloaded to your iPhone.
  • An account in both apps (Surfline and Dawn Patrol).

Once you have the above, follow these steps to connect accounts:

  1. Open Dawn Patrol and tap the avatar/profile picture at the top of the screen.
  2. Tap the “Connect with Surfline” button.
  3. Enter your Surfline account email and password.
  4. Read and acknowledge the data sharing agreement.
  5. After this step, all your previous Dawn Patrol sessions will sync to Surfline and any sessions tracked within the previous 5 days in front of a Surfline cam will generate your Sessions Clips!
  6. Go surfing with Dawn Patrol on your Apple Watch. All of your surf sessions will sync to Surfline and any waves in front of a Surfline cam will generate in clips for you.

The synchronization process will automatically take place once your Dawn Patrol session is visible in Dawn Patrol app.

Your Sessions data should be immediately available, but if it isn’t, please refer to our Support. The Sessions syncing process of uploading your videos can sometimes take up to five minutes, but (we like to think) that in the time you’re done taking off your wetsuit, you’ll have clips ready to watch and share!

Surfline Sessions™ FAQ

How do I connect my Surfline account to Dawn Patrol?

You can now connect your Surfline account to your Dawn Patrol account.
When you do so, you can watch your waves back on the Surfline’s cam rewinds.
Make sure to surf in front of a Surfline webcam!

This is how you connect your Surfline account to Dawn Patrol:

  • Make sure you are logged in with your Dawn Patrol account
  • Tap on your profile image in the bottom bar
  • Tap on Connect to Surfline
  • A screen to Sign In opens. This is a Surfline screen, sign in with your Surfline account and your Surfline password.
  • Give your consent to share your Dawn Patrol waves to Surfline, and your done

Which App should I use in the Water after I connected my Surfline account?

You can continue to use Dawn Patrol as your favourite Surf Tracker app in the water on your Apple Watch. We will synchronize the waves you surf into your Surfline account. You will be able to view your rewind clips on the Surfline app on your phone.

I am seeing a different camera in Surfline Sessions™. Can I select another camera?

It is possible that the Surfline app allocated your session to a different spot.
Another possibility is that when a spot has more than one camera, you prefer to see a different camera. You might have been out of frame for one camera, but in frame for the other.

When the session was allocated to a different spot
In order to change the Spot you surfed in the Surfline app, go to your session and tap “Edit” in the top right corner. You can then adjust the spot, and get different cam rewinds.

When you prefer to see your wave on a different camera
Play the video clip of the wave you’d like to see. In the video frame there is a camera icon. Tap this icon to switch to a different camera.
